I am a painter based in West Yorkshire. I'm interested in the way landscape is marked and shaped by the people who live there. The stone walls, houses and tracks of the Pennine hills are a record of the entwined history of the land and it's inhabitants. Getting outside to paint and draw allows me to respond to the way that light, weather and seasons transform the landscape. I want my paintings to be direct and unsentimental but to reflect the deep connections between people and place.

I paint mainly in oil in the studio, working from paintings, drawings and photos made outside in the landscape.
