A Solo Exhibition by Martin Hearne
The Bradford Disney pictures are an attempt to capture something of multicultural life in Bradford City Centre. Seeing the same characters going to work, pedestrians in the street and the same buildings in changing light and weather. People are portrayed against the backdrop of an urban/industrial landscape one where the old Victorian city merges with the new world of multicultural Bradford.
Many of the paintings are collaged together from different sources including memory, direct observations, photographs and/or drawings. These collages are often a combination different locations with superimposed figures that are made to conform to a convincing and conventional depiction of pictorial space but are in fact imaginary spaces.

Working with a combination of fibres, threads, textiles and print elements to create felt wall pieces with a contemporary and refined feel. They are highly textured artworks in which cloth is embedded, prints disguised, threads unravelled and details finely stitched.
The result are highly expressive works, largely inspired by the rural environment. Experimentation and transformation are an essential part of her process, using fibres in a painterly way, though with a tradition wet felting technique. working in fine layers, are teases fibres, thread and cloth to create depth and light within the composition. ‘Understanding the craft is important to me, but so is the manipulation of fibres as an expressive art form’
