Earth Strata No. 1

Product description

The clays used are recycled and then joined by hand to create layers suggestive of strata.  Grits and groggs are applied or incorporated into the clay bodies with slips and oxides to create full bodied pots.
All forms are fired twice to stoneware. I enjoy  the role the kiln plays in the work causing the clays to shrink, bubble, crack and melt adding further unpredictable effects.
 
I have lived for over forty years in a hill top farmhouse walking the moors with my dogs, enjoying the footpaths, wildlife and views whilst imagining the past and the geology of the terrain. Recent work has been a response to this experience , imbued, lived and imagined from my home in this moorland landscape.
