All pieces are made from laser cut and etched wood veneer, backed onto plywood. Each work combines a mixture of dyed, natural and reconstituted veneer, many of which are recycled offcuts

Amber Joy is a Sussex based Surface Design Artist, formally trained in Furniture Conservation and Restoration with a specialism in Marquetry. She has spent fifteen years honing her skills with wood veneer and precious materials, training in historical techniques at Buckinghamshire New University, Lycée des métiers Jacques Brel and École Boulle, Paris. before working with industrial laser cutters in a high-end furniture company

Amber now amalgamates the heritage craft of marquetry with modern cutting techniques to create contemporary and accessible artwork. Works are based around everyday objects, highlighting the beauty of veneer and the endless textures and colours it can create.
