Jo Brown’s interest is in the painterly space, the material properties of paint and its tangible elements - line, plane, gesture, spatial configuration, process and surface, layering and juxtaposition.

Though abstract, there is often a reference to landscape and the natural world, characterized by a free and gestural application of paint. Colour and its emotional effect is paramount.

Her aim is to create a personal space, one that others might enter and respond to in their own way.
