Inspired by the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

During a sketching trip in the Lancashire landscape, I discovered this bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. There was much about this tranquil scene that attracted me: the way the canal meanders along with soft serpentine bends, the muted colours and the reflected June sunshine contrasting dynamically with the dark shadows in the foliage. A small study led to this studio painting along with a lino-cut.
