Product description

The Barge, this painting of a barge at the Brighouse Canal Basin was inspired by the perspective. Firstly, the path which runs up the right hand side and, what looks like a fence on the left, running parallel to it. All the vertical lines in the lower two-thirds of the painting come to an abrupt halt as they meet the horizontal lines of the buildings in the distance.

The verticals of the trees add another dimension of expressionism to the painting because the dabs and strokes work with the overall marks of the painting. The arrangement of all these complexities was a challenge.
