Janet Halligan

In the late eighties I started to make the precursors of the trompe l’oeil work which I make today. Alongside this work I also like to explore more abstract themes. The observational nature of realistic work, though challenging, does not leave enough room for inventing form. Landscape has been a strong source and my latest forms have led to a body of work which has developed from the making process. These are vessels and sculptural forms exploring the relationship between curved and angular elements. All my work is hand built from slabs and glazed with a range of stoneware glazes in an electric kiln.
