Product description

Hand building in porcelain: slabbing, create plaster moulds, forming, embellishing, bisque firing, decorating using oxides and layered glazes and glaze firing.

Working in porcelain to create sculptural forms and bowls, Laura’s work not only celebrates the northern landscape, but is also steeped in her family history.
As a child, being brought up in Yorkshire she was introduced to beach combing and rock pooling around the beautiful northern coastlines. She soon became a collector and retriever, and now repurposes many of the treasured objects that she collected and continues to collect on her rambles along northern coastlines, coves, and limestone faults. Laura combines her history with her current practice by imprinting patterns and surfaces from beautiful vintage lace and crochet founded in her family’s craftwork to embellish handmade forms reminiscent of the foraged shells and rock pools she has visited. She brings together shapes and forms remembering the topography of well-traversed areas across the Yorkshire and Lancashire landscapes.

Laura is excited by the endless possibilities that can be achieved by layering and combining glazes, constantly experimenting to achieve pieces that are perfectly unique.
Form, colour, texture, and heritage are therefore balanced by her fascination with environments and climatic changes to create uniquely individual porcelain forms.
