The red in my painting depicts the death, destruction and suffering of war, while the blue hues represent harmony and the calm and tranquillity of peace.

Philip McCumskey is a South African abstract artist, now based in West Sussex, UK. Having trained in fine art at Stellenbosch University, Phil’s paintings bring together vibrant colours, unique textures and abstract forms. He works incredibly intuitively, reacting to present feelings, emotions and instincts on the canvas. A master of texture, he builds layers to his artworks using a range of tools, often scraping, adding and removing paint, making marks, and incorporating collage to create abstract works of unique and captivating character.
