Simon Dobbs

Born in Leeds. Studied Painting at Bradford and Falmouth. Work recently exhibited at Water Street Gallery, Todmorden, Redcar Contemporary Art Gallery, Cupola Contemporary, Sheffield. The Atrium, Central Square, Leeds.

My work often features aspects of the Northern Landscape and where possible I work on location, trying to capture in one sitting, most of the feel and the appearance of the scene depicted. The paint is often applied thickly, moving. across the surface in a series of expressive brush strokes, in an attempt to animate the image. These paintings were made earlier this year and feature the northern stretches of the River Wharf and the Washburn Valley, both reminders of the bleak and bitter beauty of the season.
